Abstract:
in this paper, we harness the duality between the convexity and the concavity of refractive index (RI) profile in order to design novel RI for optical communication that we refer to as the reciprocal-inverse graded index fiber (R-IGIF). Numerical simulations, using finite element method, have been carried out targeting to assess the performances metrics/transmission features of the designed fiber. The latter include the supported OAM channels, the separation between them, the chromatic dispersion, the differential group delay and the resilience in practical environment such as the bending. The obtained results, the performed discussions and the conducted comparisons with recently reported fibers confirm the viability/appropriateness of the designed fiber in next generation SDM communication systems and networks.
