Abstract:

Trick play functionality in set-top box players is an attractive feature to VoD consumers. In this paper, we envision a mid-session control with 2-level speed scaling scheme that server can control content playback speed without client's aid so that no software/hardware upgrading in set-top box requires. Especially, as our scheme does not need bit stream re-encoding, server still can use well-known performance features such as network acceleration cards. Therefore, it promises great advantages for VoD service providers and set-top box manufacturers.
