Abstract:
The effect of bit robbing in tandem digital switches is shown to consist of a time-varying linear distortion comparable to aliasing distortion in addition to increased quantization distortion. Alternative bit-robbing strategies in which this linear distortion can be reduced or eliminated are evaluated, and recommendations are made for future digital switch designs.
