Abstract:

The storage and transmission of multi-channel high-rate sensor data have emerged as new challenges in real-time sensor signal acquisition. To address these challenges, a multi-channel compression algorithm can be utilized to decrease data storage and transmission bandwidth requirements. We propose a general adaptive lossless multi-channel compression architecture that leverages inter-channel and intra-channel correlation to improve the compression efficiency. Additionally, a high-throughput hardware implementation of the compression architecture is proposed. The experimental results on multiple open-source datasets demonstrate that our multi-channel lossless compression architecture outperforms reported single-channel and multi-channel compression architectures in terms of compression efficiency. Experiments show that it can deliver a competitive throughput rate for each channel in FPGA for a 16-channel compression implementation.
