Abstract:

Although the term telemaintenance does not exist in the English dictionary, under this concept, the authors include all the maintenance actions based on the capabilities of remote supervision and activation of given equipment in an industrial environment. The proposed definition for this term will be “restoration of a failure or degraded state of a remote system without the need to physically access the remote location.” Using remote maintenance techniques, the main results will be the following: 1) an improvement of the reliability and availability of systems and elements supervised and 2) an optimization of the use of human and material resources available such that it will be possible, without increasing the assets, to absorb future add-ins to the productive equipment in a plant.
