Abstract:

The accurate rotor position identification of the permanent magnet spherical motor (PMSM) is crucial to its closed-loop control. A design method for the Hall sensor array and a novel method for rotor position identification of the PMSM based on equilateral spherical triangles are proposed in this article, which can obtain accurate rotor position by a limited number of Hall sensors. First, the Hall sensor array is determined by combining the spherical triangle theory and the physical structure of the spherical motor. Then, a rotor position identification method is proposed based on the center of the spherical equilateral triangle. The Hall sensors selected for calculation are divided into “position sensors” and “correction sensors,” and based on this, a position identification method with correction coefficients is proposed. Simulations and experiments are conducted finally to verify that the identification accuracy is within 1°.
