Abstract:

This work introduces a novel slotted-type double-side linear resolver (L-Resolver) with toroidal windings. The proposed resolver exhibits robustness against air-gap asymmetry fault (AGF), making it accurate and reliable in both healthy and faulty scenarios. Its simple structure and toroidal windings result in a cost-effective design. Accuracy testing is conducted under various conditions, including different fault severities, and robustness is confirmed through extensive simulations. A flexible magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) method is applied to model the resolver precisely while considering various scenarios. This approach offers greater flexibility and shorter processing times compared with the finite-element method (FEM). In the end, the effectiveness of the proposed resolver is validated through experimental results, further affirming its robustness. The proposed resolver is an excellent choice for using as an absolute linear position sensor, thanks to its simplicity, accuracy, and its robustness in the face of a common mechanical fault: AGFs.
