Abstract:
It is widely recognized that future optical networks are moving toward a model wherein all-optical reconfigurable switching devices are interconnected to provide flexible and dynamic high-speed optical connections. Furthermore, the introduction of a common control plane represents a great challenge for achieving the required intelligence for efficiently managing such networks. This article describes in depth the architectural details of two control plane controllers implemented over the ADRENALINE testbed: the resource manager and the routing controller. Finally, some discussion pays particular attention to optical routing aspects under the ADRENALINE framework. Such aspects include multi-domain routing, physical layer constraints, wavelength continuity, and diversity routing for network survivability purposes
