Abstract:
This study is devoted to the miniaturization of the rat-race coupler operating within the range of 0.749-1.2 GHz which layout is based on the substrate with dielectric conductivity ε = 4.4, dielectric loss factor tgδ = 0.02, and thickness h = 1 mm. The article also describes the design process of a miniature structure based on the substitution of the microstrip line with an artificial transmission line featuring the same phase shift as the section being substituted. The suggested structure is simulated and its frequency characteristics are measured. A prototype is produced and its characteristics that prove the operability of the device are measured. The area of the compact rat-race coupler is by 60% less as compared to the traditional structure.
