Abstract:

In this paper we have worked on low-frequency area within the transition zone of a Nyquist filter that is going to determine improvements of the filter when its impulse response is sampled with a timing error. We have proposed a method to boost the performance of a Nyquist pulse in the presence of a timing error. This implied the addition of a sinusoidal function to the frequency characteristic of the considered pulse having an integer number of half-cycles. The proposed method has been checked on poly and POWER pulses that outperform most of the pulses reported so far. Using apodization has generated significant improvements of the error probability of the poly and POWER pulses when sampled with a timing error. The goal is to provide a powerful ISI (inter-symbol interference) free pulse with more flexibility in terms of shape design and manipulation.
