Abstract:

A new method of frequency tracking for a real-valued sine wave is examined in this paper. The main advantage of the algorithm is that it is developed taking into account the conjugate component so only a short interval is required to accurately estimate the frequency. Additional distortion is canceled by considering the impact of other shifted-away complex exponentials. Together with the described method, the generalized maximum sidelobes decay windows are introduced providing vast flexibility for customizing the method. The use of discrete Fourier transform points and the form of straight-forward analytical expression guarantees fast execution time. This makes the algorithm especially suitable for all real-time system applications that require fast response times and well-defined dynamic behavior. The method is evaluated in terms of its characteristics with computer simulations. Also, the experimental results from real-time implementation on a signal processor and its computational cost are presented.
