Abstract:

The main goal of the estimation method presented in the paper is to measure the frequency in the power grid. The paper presents the analysis of errors of frequency estimation, caused by Gaussian noise, in a new method based on 3-point interpolated DFT (IpDFT) with the use of Generalized Maximum Sidelobe Decay Windows (GMSD). The main parameter which describes statistical properties of the presented method is a standard deviation (square root of a variance) of a frequency estimator. It was examined based on a GMSD window parameter, a number of samples and a signal-to-noise ratio. Analytical formulas for upper bound of a standard deviation were also derived in the paper. The results were obtained for the use of a control of power grid, where methods based on discrete Fourier transforms are often applied due to the simplicity and a low cost, especially in small renewable energy power systems.
