Abstract:
To ensure the high capacity required by the new trends in radio communications, satellite systems must employ higher frequency bands (i.e., Ka, Q, V) where wider bandwidths are available. The downside of this approach is that it faces increased propagation impairments such as attenuation, depolarization, and scintillation. Therefore, propagation campaigns are required to assess and describe several tropospheric channel parameters that can be used to develop appropriate fade mitigation methods. This paper presents the preparation of a Q-band propagation campaign in Cluj-Napoca, Romania in the frame of Alphasat experiment, describing the employed receiver and estimating the link budget.
