Abstract:

The fifth generation (5G) mobile communications technology promises to support new features and services, some of which will require Ultra-Reliable and Low Latency Communications (URLLC). To maximize the overall wireless networked control systems performance, it is necessary to have the integration of URLLC and control performance. Multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication systems provide diversity technique which is used to transmit the same information through different paths to guarantee the reliability of the wireless network. Additionally, another method is used to increase the channel capacity by offering additional spatial dimensions, and a degree of freedom (DoF) gains in the high SNR regime. These techniques cannot be done together, but there exists a trade-off between them to achieve URLLC. In this work, we study the impact of using (MIMO) systems concerning obtaining URLLC using this trade-off. Then, we study the control performance of the wireless networked control systems (WNCSs) and the average energy consumption of producing URLLC using MIMO systems from the perspective of communication and control co-design. As a result, the proposed method can significantly minimize the average energy consumption compared with single-input-single-output (SISO) system. Additionally, the control cost performance versus SNR of our proposed method is illustrated in the simulation results section.
