Abstract:

Multiple-element antenna channels provide increased spectral efficiency and reduced error probabilities through their potential for spatial multiplexing and diversity signaling. Cooperative signaling can be employed to emulate these features in a distributed fashion in networks where communicating nodes cannot be equipped with multiple-element antennas for practical reasons. Towards this end, this paper proposes conceptually simple distributed cooperative signaling algorithms for both the downlink and the uplink of a class of adaptively reconfigurable networks called quasi-structured networks. These signaling algorithms are spectrally efficient and provide the maximum diversity achievable for the emulated multiple-antenna configuration.
