Abstract:

In the context of 5G New Radio (5G NR), the utilization of polar codes as a pivotal channel coding technique holds significant prominence. In this paper, we enhance successive-cancellation (SC) decoding for polar codes by incorporating elements from both the Fano decoding concept and the node acceleration approach. Our novel approach, called Fast-SC-Fano decoding, capitalizes on four types of node within the Fast-SC decoding, while preserving the backtracking mechanism of SC-Fano algorithm, thus enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the decoding process. The simulation results show that the proposed approach exhibits comparable performance to existing decoding method while operating at a lower computational complexity. As the demand for efficient and high-performance decoding methods within the 5G NR ecosystem intensifies, our Fast-SC-Fano decoding stands as a promising solution, poised to contribute significantly to the seamless and reliable data transmission in next-generation (6G) networks.
