Abstract:
A variety of photo sharing applications overmobile networks have gained popularity in recent years. The mobile network is a public network and is highly vulnerable to security attacks. This makes it essential to deploy cryptographic algorithms to address the security issues. However, the encrypted data when transmitted over the mobile network is vulnerable to the channel noise and is improved by various error correction codes. The sequential process of encryption followed by error correction code adds to the resources, computational power and time of the overall system. The proposed Modified Cryptographic Turbo Code (MCTC) integrates the error correction and encryption into a single entity to ensure reliability and security of the image over an open communication channel. Additionally it provides dual level of security to the sensitive portion of the image by hiding it in the less sensitive portion. The proposed MCTC depicts a similar bit error performance as that of Turbo Code (TC) for a 0.7 dB rise in per bit energy. The accuracy of the image recovered by MCTC is compared with Least Significant Bit and Least Significant Bit Hamming Code data hiding methods followed by TC known as LSBTC and LSBHCTC respectively. The analysis shows 99.99 % accuracy in the recovered bits as compared to 93.72 % and 98.44 % for LSBTC and LSBHCTC over an AWGN channel for 3dB SNR respectively. Moreover, the MCTC provides a higher embedding capacity of 26.5% as compared to 11% and 5% for LSBTC and LSBHCTC.
