Abstract:

This paper studies a globally-aware optimization algorithm for the allocation of limited bandwidth during multipath routing inside a MANET. When allocating the limited bandwidth, this algorithm not only considers the current transmission at a crowded node, but also globally takes into account any other transmissions converging there in the network through the use of Flow Cost. An objective function is formulated in terms of the Flow Cost (capturing the effect of each flow on others) and the utilization factor (capturing queueing performance) so that an optimization can be carried out to allocate the bandwidth for the multiple routing paths. A 20-node network is used to illustrate the performance of our algorithm and its capability to support multiple paths.
