Abstract:

In this paper, a hybrid modulation scheme combining quad-LED complex modulation (QCM) and spatial modulation (SM) has been proposed in indoor visible light communication (VLC) system. The SM scheme is firstly used to select one quad-LED (QLED). Then, QCM scheme is further employed by the selected QLED to map the complex modulation symbols. Hence, the hybrid quad-LED complex spatial modulation (QCSM) scheme obtains the advantages of both QCM and SM, and can improve the system performance and the transmission rate simultaneously. Symbol error rate (SER) and bit error rate (BER) of the proposed scheme are studied based on the maximal likelihood (ML) detection. Simulation results and theoretical analysis show the better performance of the proposed QCSM scheme, compared with the SM VLC system. The system performance with different distances of the QLEDs has also been analyzed.
