Abstract:

In this paper we show a way to get high capacity and full coverage indoor for a line-of-sight (LOS) system in the 70 GHz portion of the E-band (71-76 GHz). The system consists of a 3 × 3 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system and involves a particular geometry able to maximize the capacity while at the same time having full coverage. Our geometry includes a circular arc array at the transmitter and a uniform linear array (ULA) at the receiver. The method is based on the optimization of the inter-element distances at the transmitter and the receiver. Full coverage is obtained with the use of beamforming. The simulation results show that the proposed system is able to obtain high capacity and full coverage in LOS. The system we consider is able to improve connectivity by also considering reflections from various types of surfaces if there are objects blocking the LOS path.
