Abstract:

To realize long-distance underwater optical wireless communication in the presence of severe channel attenuation, it is necessary to solve the problem of signal detection under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). In this paper, we propose a novel adaptive stochastic resonance (ASR) scheme based on the nonlinear dynamic of stochastic resonance (SR). The conditions for generation of SR when a bipolar non-return-to-zero (NRZ) signal is applied to a nonlinear bistable system are discussed. By using scale transformation, SR can be applied to the signal with arbitrary frequency and noise intensity. Meanwhile, the signal detection method based on a monostable system is designed. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the bit error ratio (BER) performance of the receiver can be significantly improved by the signal pre-processing system based on ASR, and the monostable system performs better than the bistable system in the very low SNR region.
