Abstract:
In mid-air haptic presentation, an ultrasound phased array can control the sound pressure distribution to provide the desired pressure pattern by electronically controlling the amplitude and phase of the transducers. However, the distance to the presentation plane from the array is limited due to the diffraction-limit. In this paper, we evaluate the workspace in long-distance midair haptic display that is enabled by a large-aperture concave reflector. By experiment, we confirmed that a 20cm-square size of array can create a workspace of 20cm-cube at a distance of 1.6m by synchronizing the phases of the reflected waves. It was also confirmed the feasibility of a phase calculation method producing a focus based on sound field interpolation using the experimentally obtained phase data for discrete focal point positions.
