Abstract:
Partial slips at the interface between human fingers and rigid objects trigger corrective grip force adjustments. We are developing an ex-vivo model of the rat digit which permits correlation between skin deformations and afferent discharge from cutaneous mechanoreceptors. Our first aim is to translate work done in primate fingers to the rat and to determine whether partial slips are a common feature in species that engage in dexterous manipulation.
