Abstract:
There has been an increased interest in securing Software Defined Networking (SDN) with Blockchain in recent years. Although Blockchain offers robust defensive security for some applications, its security feature-set does not align well with SDN’s security requirements in a practical setting. This is due to the distributed nature of the state-of-the-art SDN controller services. In this paper, we give a comprehensive architectural analysis of the core Blockchain security feature-set and SDN’s virtualization fabric. Then, we introduce a practical Blockchain-based security and privacy-preserving framework, and discuss the design and implementation of the security services for future generation SDN controllers. This is to entice research on the subject from an architectural prospective.
