Abstract:
Localization is an important issue in wireless sensor networks as the location information is typically useful for the applications such as routing, target tracking, environmental monitoring and disaster management. In order to determine whether the proposed localization scheme will be useful when implemented, it is necessary to evaluate its performance by means of simulation. The mobility model is an important simulation parameter in the performance evaluation of localization scheme. The paper presents a comparative simulation study of four mobility models such as RWM, RWPM, Gauss-Markov Mobility Model and RPGM in the performance evaluation of Monte Carlo Localization (MCL). The results indicate that the impact on the performance of localization is remarkably different when the nodes move in different mobility models. Therefore, it is important to choose a mobility model in the performance evaluation of localization scheme.
