Abstract:
The transmission mechanism of Content Centric Network (CCN) is that any router or provider which has a matched content can response to the request. However, this mechanism will bring a large number of redundant data, and lead to unnecessary waste of network resources. We propose Hedging Redundancy (HR) which extends CCN's packet types with Notification message for reducing the redundant data. When a router receives a Notification message, it will delete the Pending Interest Table (PIT) entry matching the content name notified in Notification message. A simplified transmission model of HR is established in order to measure the transmission cost. We find that the number of Notification being forwarded at the highest level and the sum of routers and providers will affect the transmission cost to a large extent. Our simulation results in two transmission scenarios show that our scheme will reduce transmission cost, improve transmission efficiency, and decrease the capacity of Content Store (CS) at the same time.
