Abstract:
In this paper, we propose a multidimensional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with coded direct index modulation (MD-OFDM-CDIM) to improve the spectral efficiency of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). The proposed system can improve the spectral efficiency by increasing the code rate without significant performance degradation. Although OFDM is mainly used as a physical layer technology to satisfy these requirements, continuous improvements to various characteristics of OFDM are required to support next-generation scenarios. One of the studies to satisfy these requirements is multidimensional OFDM (MD-OFDM), but this system improves the performance of the system while consuming additional time resources, so there is no significant advantage in terms of fundamental spectral efficiency compared to OFDM. Simulation results show that the proposed system can achieve higher spectral efficiency and performance compared with conventional OFDM, and MD-OFDM.
