Abstract
The availability of high speed computers and high data storage capacities has facilitated the development of practical virtual reality (VR) systems. YR uses computer modeling and simulation to enable human interactions with artificial three-dimensional visual or other sensory environments. In medicine, YR systems have the potential to significantly advance the practice of surgery. Surgery planning and rehearsal can be effectively carried out on YR systems, eliminating or significantly reducing the need for exploratory surgery.
