ABSTRACT
This talk will make the circular argument that theory should be motivated by practical experience, and practical testbeds/evaluations should be motivated by theoretical results. I will base the talk partly on our experience in both areas (theory & testbed) in the context of multi-channel wireless networks.

SEMP: Self-Elimination MAC Protocol for IEEE 802.11 Wireless Networks
IEEE 802.11-based wireless networks are becoming more popular, and a lot of research is done to enhance the performance of the distributed control function (DCF) found in the IEEE 802.11 standard. Many researchers utilized jamming to further enhance the ...
Performance evaluation of contention-based access in IEEE 802.16 networks with subchannelization
ICC'09: Proceedings of the 2009 IEEE international conference on CommunicationsIEEE 802.16 wireless networks, known as WiMAX, employ a mechanism for guaranteed time allocation to mobile stations in order to meet the different quality of service requirements for service flows. The base station allocates contention-based time slots ...
The effect of contention in CSMA networks: Model and fairness protocol
Multi-hop wireless networks using Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA) suffer from various forms of unfairness. A majority of the existing work focuses on fairness issues due to hidden terminals and the impact on backoff mechanisms. This paper focuses ...
