Battery modeling has become a fundamental support in the design of electronic systems. In the literature, a vast amount of battery models, that differ in the specific modeled effects and in the resulting degree of accuracy can be found. Such models belong to three main categories: electrochemical, analytical and circuit equivalent models. Modeling approaches, based on a generic model template in terms of equivalent electrical circuit are considered the most convenient approaches since they can be included in system level simulation by using standard EDA tools. This work provides a systematic methodology that allows a designer to choose a battery model template, which is able to track the desired battery effects, and to generate the required information to derive that model. The distinctive feature of this methodology is the modularity given by the adopted model templates and the generality (it is applicable to batteries having different chemistry, materials of the electrodes, form factor and size).
