Performance Analysis and Comparison of Surface and Interior Bearingless Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors
In order to explore the impact of different rotor structures on the performance of bearingless permanent magnet synchronous motors (BPMSMs), this paper presents and compares a surface BPMSM (SBPMSM) and an interior BPMSM (IBPMSM) with the same stators. Firstly, the operation principle
of the BPMSM is introduced. Then the magnetic field analysis of SBPMSM and IBPMSM are carried out based on finite element (FE) analysis. Secondly, the corresponding static electromagnetic characteristics, including permanent magnet flux linkage, EMF, inductances, torques, and radial suspension
force are compared. The FE analysis results show that the IBPMSM has larger inductance, torque and radial suspension force.
