ABSTRACT

Improved computed and modeling techniques render the FE method a very reliable and accurate approach in biomechanical applications. In this work, FE static analyses were performed on a 2-D model of the proximal half of a human femur in order to address the problemsmentioned in the Introduction. The geometry of the model was reconstructed from an anteriorposterior X-rays image of a healthy femur. First, the contour of the femur was manually drawn through a CAD software (Fig. 1) and suitably filtered in MATLAB environment and then it was exported in COMSOL Multiphysics for the FE analysis.
