Abstract
The applications of business intelligence are multifaceted and include very broad topics like the support of top managers in overall management process as well as specific solutions, such as risk analysis in the banking and insurance sector.
The application of Business Intelligence as a collection of methods for decision support also gains increasing importance within the health sector, especially in hospitals. The article provides an insight into possible ways of decision support within a hospital using Business Intelligence methods. Following a systematic literature review, it is shown that Business Intelligence can support parts of the business as well as the medical processes alongside a hospital’s value chain. In addition to the status quo, several case studies are examined concerning the application of Business Intelligence technology in hospitals.
