Abstract
In Japan, the electromagnetic wave has been utilized so widely that the frequency band in use is being saturated. The radio stations have been increasing in number, resulting in gradual shift to unused frequency band. For instance, the frequency of personal communicators and car phones which have rapidly increased in number is concentrated around 1GHz in recent years (the Ministry of Labour, 1987). The authors (Saito,1986; Saito et al., 1987) have investigated on the effect of long term radio frequency (RF) irradiation (428MHz) at low levels on the reproduction, growth, organ weight, etc in mice. The effect of RF on organisms could include the thermal and non-thermal effects, although the authors have not measured the thermal effect previously. Since the use of electromagnetic waves around 1GHz is increasing in our environment, the chances to be exposed will increase in future. Therefore, in the present study, we investigated the biological effects of the irradiation of RF at 906MHz band on mice. The specific absorption rates (SAR) of the irradiation with this frequency band was indirectly measured to assess the thermal effect.
