Abstract:
In recent years, the use of LEDs in Ultraviolet (UV) curing systems has attracted people's attentions. In the literature, it is stated that UV-LED is ready to substitute conventional UV curing systems due to its fully developed working solution for many applications, while it is also argued that conventional UV curing systems are effective and reliable. Therefore, there is a demand to investigate the possibility to apply LED lighting technology into current UV curing and solidification. The paper reviews the latest UV-LED curing technology and its benefits in circular economy. Compared with the conventional UV technology, UV-LED curing has been studied from the aspects of energy saving/efficiency, recyclability/disposal, production cost, environment friendliness, and lifetime span. This review provides insight in the latest development in this subject area and help make an appropriate decision for application of UV-LED technologies. The application of circular economic business models developed by the EU Horizon 2020 CIRC4Life project has been highlighted.
