Abstract:

Retransmissions serve as the basic building block that communication protocols use it to achieve reliable data transmission. To reduce data loss, retransmission scheme has been applied, however, uncontrolled retransmission may increase network load significantly and decrease the network performance. In this paper, a maximum weight packet scheduling scheme with retransmission (MWPS-R) is proposed in multi-hop wireless networks, which integrates packet scheduling and retransmission in a unified manner at the MAC layer in order to minimize the negative effect of retransmission to network performance. In the proposed scheme, transmission priorities of the flows are determined by the length of queues and the size of the transmitting packets to guarantee the throughput of the networks, the retransmission priorities of flows are determined by their potential reliability during transmitting process. The proposed scheme MWPS-R with the dynamic priority view can reduce packet drop ratio caused by immediate retransmission and to protect the expected service resource, which is with fairness. The simulation results show that the proposed scheduling scheme can improve the throughput of the network, reduce packet drop ratio, avoid the bad influences happened by the packet backlog and can get fairness of scheduling.
