Abstract:

Network Traversal with Mobility (NTMobile) is a technology that provides transparency in mobility and connectivity in a mixed IPv4/IPv6 environment. In order to improve the operational efficiency of NTMobile, we have proposed an extension of NTMobile in this study to eliminate the redundant routes and select optimal relay servers by migrating the NTMobile servers running in the cloud as virtual functions on a virtual customer premises equipment installed at the network edge of the internet service providers. The extension of NTMobile has been achieved using anycast for the deployment of NTMobile servers at the network edge. In addition, the extended NTMobile system has been implemented in a virtual environment using Mininet, a versatile tool used for emulating and prototyping of Software Defined Networking, and compare the performance of the conventional cloud-based system and the new edge-based system has been compared.
