Abstract:

The new technologies used for the Internet of Things (IoT) allow providing advanced smart services to the users. These smart environments are being exploited to improve the users' interest on interactive cultural experiences. In this paper, we propose an indoor location aware solution able to enhance the user experience in a museum based on the location information. The localization information is obtained by a Bluetooth Low Energy infrastructure installed in the museum and several location-aware services can be provided. In fact, multimedia content can be proposed to a user when he is around the object of his interest. This content can be shared with neighboring users since all the locations are known. Such a strategy allows saving energy and increasing the downloading throughput. The system has been designed to be easily extensible to other IoT technologies and its effectiveness has been evaluated by simulation for the localization part and by experiment for the service sharing part.
