We analysed the effects of increasing low-cost carrier flights on the airport runway capacity. Different runway utilisation approaches were simulated to study their pros and cons. The single arrival and departure runway approach gives the best results for runway capacity and safety measures. The approach can be applied to runway 3. It can be allocated for only arrival or departure flights during certain time slots to cope with the ever increasing growth of flight movements in the region. We also examined the flight delays in December 2013. An ANOVA and a t-test were performed with two sets of the delays to find that thunderstorms would significantly affect the duration of the flight delays. The delays were translated into the number of flights loss due to deficiency caused by thunderstorms. The number was then used in a derived equation to compute the profit loss due to the thunderstorms in 2013. A simulation and modelling function has been established by the ATMRI to conduct analyses of airspace structures and traffic flows throughout the region.
