Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health (ICT4AWE 2019) which was organized and sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and held in cooperation with ACM SIGACCESS - ACM’s Special Interest Group on Accessible Computing, Porto4Ageing, IMIA - International Medical Informatics Association and HIMSS Europe. ICT4AWE is an annual meeting point for those that study and apply Information and Communication Technologies for improving the quality of life of the elderly and for helping people stay healthy, independent and active at work or in their community along their whole life. ICT4AWE facilitates the exchange of information and dissemination of best practices, innovation and technical improvements in the fields of age-related health care, education, social coordination and ambient assisted living. The 2019 conference brought together researchers and practitioners interested in methodologies and applications related to the Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health fields. It had four main topic areas, covering different aspects, including Ambient Assisted Living, Telemedicine and E-Health, Monitoring, Accessibility and HCI, and Independent Living. We believe these proceedings demonstrate new and innovative solutions, and highlight challenging and worthwhile ICT approaches and solutions in the domain of ageing well and e-Health. ICT4AWE 2018 received 52 paper submissions from 20 countries in all continents, of which 25% were accepted as full papers. To evaluate each submission, a double blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are renowned researchers in the ICT4AWE topic areas. The high quality of the ICT4AWE 2018 programme was enhanced by three keynote lectures, delivered by experts in their fields, namely: Nick Guldemond (Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management, Netherlands), Liz Mestheneos (50+Hellas and Past-President Age Platform, Greece) and Miriam Vollenbroek-Hutten (University of Twente, Netherlands). The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), EI (Elsevier Index), Scopus, Semantic Scholar, Google Scholar and DBLP. All presented papers will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library. Furthermore, a short list of presented papers will be selected and their authors will be invited to submit an extended version of their papers to be included in a forthcoming book of ICT4AWE Selected Papers to be published in the CCIS Series by Springer Verlag. The best regular and position papers and the best student submissions were distinguished with awards based on the combined marks of paper reviewing, as assessed by the Program Committee, and the quality of the presentation at the conference venue. Building an interesting and successful program for the conference required the dedicated effort of many people. We would like to express our thanks to all participants. First of all, to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of the Conference. We would also like to express our gratitude to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We thank the invited speakers for their invaluable contribution and for taking the time to synthesize and prepare their talks. Finally, we gratefully acknowledge the professional support of the INSTICC team for all organizational processes. (More)
