Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence (ICAART 2020). The conference is sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. It has also the “in cooperation” status with the following organizations: ACM Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence (ACM SIGAI), the Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence (APPIA), the IberoAmerican Society of Artificial Intelligence (IBERAMIA), the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technology (EUSFLAT), the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence (AEPIA), the International Fuzzy Systems Association (IFSA), the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AI*IA), the Associação Portuguesa de Reconhecimento de Padrões (APRP) and the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI). The purpose of the International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence is to bring together researchers, engineers, and practitioners interested in the theory and applications in the areas of Agents and Artificial Intelligence. Two simultaneous related tracks will be held, covering both applications and current research work. One track focuses on Agents, Multi-Agent Systems and Software Platforms, Distributed Problem Solving and Distributed AI in general. The other track focuses mainly on Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge Representation, Planning, Learning, Scheduling, Perception, Reactive AI Systems, and Evolutionary Computing. ICAART received 276 paper submissions from 55 countries, including special sessions, only 16% of which have been accepted as full papers, showing the intention of preserving a high quality forum for the next editions of this conference. The meeting is complemented with the Special Session on Human-centric Applications of Multi-agent Technologies (HAMT), the Special Session on Natural Language Processing in Artificial Intelligence (NLPinAI) and the Special Session on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Heritage: Challenges and Opportunities (ARTIDIGH). The conference program includes a panel and four invited talks delivered by internationally distinguished speakers, namely: Carles Sierra (IIIA-CSIC, Spain), Marie-Christine Rousset (Université Grenoble-Alpes and Institut Universitaire de France, France), Bart Selman (Cornell University, United States) and Rineke Verbrugge (Bernoulli Institute, University of Groningen, Netherlands). As recognition for the best submissions and the best student contributions, several awards based on the combined marks of paper reviewing, as assessed by the Program Committee, and the quality of the presentation, as assessed by session chairs at the conference venue, are conferred at the closing session of the conference. We would like to express our thanks to all participants. First of all, to the authors, whose quality work forms the essence of this conference. Next, we thank all the members of the program committee and the auxiliary reviewers for their diligence and expert reviewing. Of course, we owe our sincere gratitude to the invited speakers for their excellent contribution in sharing their knowledge and vision. Finally, special thanks go to all the members of the INSTICC team whose collaboration was fundamental for the success of this conference. We wish all of you an inspiring conference and an unforgettable stay at Valletta, Malta. We hope to meet you again next year for the 13th ICAART, details of which will soon be available at http://www.icaart.org. (More)
