Foreword: This book contains the Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Evaluation of Novel Approaches to Software Engineering (ENASE 2023). This conference is sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC), held in cooperation with the ACM Special Interest Group on Management Information Systems (ACM SIGMIS) and technically co-sponsored by the IEEE SMC - IEEE Technical Committee on Enterprise Information Systems. This year’s ENASE is held in Prague, Czech Republic, from April 24−25. The mission of ENASE is to be a prime international forum to discuss and publish research findings and IT industry experiences with relation to the evaluation of novel approaches to software engineering. The conference acknowledges necessary changes in systems and software thinking due to contemporary shifts of the computing paradigm to e-services, cloud computing, mobile connectivity, business processes, and societal participation. By comparing novel approaches with established traditional practices and by evaluating them against systems and software quality criteria, ENASE conferences advance knowledge and research in software engineering, including and emphasizing service-oriented, business-process driven, and ubiquitous mobile computing. ENASE aims at identifying the most promising trends and proposing new directions for considera¬tion by researchers and practitioners involved in large-scale systems and software development, integration, deployment, delivery, maintenance and evolution. ENASE 2023 received 121 paper submissions, from 31 countries, 17% of which were accepted as full papers. This acceptance rate shows the intention to preserve the quality of this and the next editions of this conference. Revised and extended versions of selected papers presented at the conference will be included in the ENASE 2023 Selected Papers book, published by Springer in the CCIS Series. The conference program includes three keynote speeches delivered by internationally distinguished speakers: Barbara Weber (University of St. Gallen, Switzerland), Letizia Jaccheri (Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway) and Robert Winter (University of St. Gallen, Switzerland). To recognize the best submissions and the best student contributions, awards are conferred at the closing session of the conference. The selection is based on the combined marks of paper reviewing, as assessed by the Program Commit¬tee, and the presentation quality, as assessed by the Chairs in the course of the conference. We would like to express our thanks to all participants, first of all, to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of this conference. Next, we thank all the members of the Program Committee and the auxiliary reviewers for their diligence and expert reviewing. We cordially thank the invited speakers for their excellent contributions in sharing their knowledge and vision. Finally, we acknowledge the professional support of the INSTICC team for the smooth running of the organizational processes that made it possible for authors to present their work and to share ideas with colleagues. We wish you all an inspiring conference, and we look forward to having additional research results presented at the next edition of ENASE, details of which are available at https://enase.scitevents.org/.
