Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Smart Business Technologies (ICSBT 2023), held in Rome, Italy, from July 11-13 2023. ICSBT is sponsored and organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC). The Conference Program includes oral presentations (full papers and short papers) organized in four tracks: “Business Intelligence”, “Business Models and Business Processes”, “Collaboration and Interoperability” and “Technologies and Applications”. Furthermore, the plenary program includes three plenary keynote lectures, given by Prof. Ali Emrouznejad (University of Surrey, United Kingdom), Prof. Paolo Bellavista (Università degli Studi di Bologna, Italy) and Prof. Agnes Koschmider (University of Bayreuth, Germany). ICSBT 2023 received 30 paper submissions, from 18 countries. To evaluate each submission, a double-blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members were carefully selected and are highly qualified researchers in the ICSBT topic areas. Based on the provided classifications, 11 papers were selected as full papers, which led to a full paper acceptance ratio of 36%. The ICSBT conference series intends to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in smart business technologies. It serves to be a meeting place where information exchange occurs and where collaboration projects emerge from social contacts amongst the participants. As in previous editions of the conference, based on the reviewers’ evaluations and on the session chairs’ reports of the paper presentations, a selection of best papers presented at the conference will be made. The authors of these papers will be invited to submit extended versions for a book with revised selected papers of ICSBT 2023 in the Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS) series published by Springer. We would like to express our thanks to all participants, and particularly to the authors, whose reported research results provide the essence of this conference. Secondly, we owe gratitude to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We would also like to deeply thank the invited speakers for the excellent contribution and for sharing their knowledge and vision. A successful conference involves more than paper presentations alone. It is also a meeting place, where ideas about new research projects and other ventures are discussed and debated. Therefore, a social event including a conference dinner/banquet has been planned for evening of July 13th in order to promote this kind of social networking. Finally, a word of appreciation for the hard work of the INSTICC team; organizing a conference of this level is a task that can only be achieved by the collaborative effort of a dedicated and highly capable and energetic team. We hope you find the program of ICSBT 2023 interesting and inspiring for your future research, and offering helpful references in future works.
