Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health (ICT4AWE 2023) which was organized and sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and held in cooperation with IMIA - International Medical Informatics Association, ISfTeH - International Society for Telemedicine & eHealth and JTTA - Japanese Telemedicine and Telecare Association. This year ICT4AWE was held in Prague, Czech Republic as a hybrid event, from 22 to 24 April. ICT4AWE is an annual meeting point for those that study and apply Information and Communication Technologies for improving the quality of life of the elderly and for helping people stay healthy, independent and active at work or in their community along their whole life. ICT4AWE facilitates the exchange of information and dissemination of best practices, innovation and technical improvements in the fields of age-related health care, education, social coordination and ambient assisted living. The 2023 conference brought together researchers and practitioners interested in methodologies and applications related to the Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health fields. It had three main topic areas: (1) Aging Well – Social and Human Sciences Perspective, (2) Telemedicine and Independent Living and (3) Digital Health and e-health. We believe these proceedings demonstrate new and innovative solutions, and highlight challenging and worthwhile ICT approaches and solutions in the domain of ageing well and e-Health. ICT4AWE 2023 received 39 paper submissions from 18 countries, of which 21% were accepted as full papers. To evaluate each submission, a double-blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are renowned researchers in the ICT4AWE topic areas. The papers submitted and accepted for the conference contribute to the understanding of relevant trends of current research on Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health. The high quality of the ICT4AWE 2023 programme was enhanced by a number of keynote lectures delivered by internationally known experts in their fields, namely Effie Lai-Chong Law (Durham University, United Kingdom), Claudia Pagliari (University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom) and Alejandro Rodríguez-Molinero (Consorci Sanitari del Garraf, Spain). The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by SCOPUS, Google Scholar, The DBLP Computer Science Bibliography, Semantic Scholar, Engineering Index (EI) and Web of Science / Conference Proceedings Citation Index. All presented papers will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library. Furthermore, a short list of presented papers will be selected and their authors will be invited to submit an extended version of their papers to be included in a forthcoming book of ICT4AWE Selected Papers to be published in the CCIS Series by Springer. The best regular and position papers, including student contributions, were distinguished with awards based on the combined marks of paper reviewing, as assessed by the Program Committee, and the quality of the presentation at the conference. Building an interesting and successful program for the conference required the dedicated effort of many people. We would like to express our thanks to all participants. First, to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of this conference. We would also like to express our gratitude to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who provided their expertise and valuable time. Furthermore, we thank the invited speakers for their invaluable contributions and for taking the time to synthesize their work and prepare their talks. Finally, we gratefully acknowledge the professional support of the INSTICC team for handling all organizational issues, making it possible for ICT4AWE 2023 authors to present their work and share ideas with colleagues, both onsite and online. We hope that all colleagues who participated in the conference and/or read its proceedings, find this a fruitful and inspiring conference. We hope to contribute to the development of the Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health community and look forward to having additional research results presented at the next edition of ICT4AWE, details of which are available at https://ict4awe.scitevents.org/.
