Foreword:
This volume contains the proceedings of the 15th International Joint Conference on Computational Intelligence (IJCCI 2023), sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and held in cooperation with the ACM Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence (ACM SIGAI), the International Neural Network Society (INNS), the World Federation on Soft Computing, the Società Italiana di Reti Neuroniche and the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technology (EUSFLAT). This year IJCCI was held in Rome, Italy as a hybrid event, from 13 to 15 November.
The purpose of IJCCI is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners on the areas of Evolutionary, Fuzzy and Neural Computation. The connection of these areas in all their wide range of approaches and applications forms the International Joint Conference on Computational Intelligence.
IJCCI is composed of three co-located complementary conferences, each specialized
in one of the aforementioned main knowledge areas. Namely:
- International Conference on Evolutionary Computation Theory and Applications (ECTA)
- International Conference on Fuzzy Computation Theory and Applications (FCTA)
- International Conference on Neural Computation Theory and Applications (NCTA)
The International Conference on Evolutionary Computation Theory and Applications (ECTA) intends to be a major forum for scientists, engineers and practitioners interested in the study, analysis, design, modeling and implementation of evolvable systems, both theoretically and in a broad range of application fields. ECTA welcomes both theoretical research and practical applications.
The International Conference on Fuzzy Computation Theory and Applications (FCTA) intends to be a major forum for scientists, engineers and practitioners interested in the study, analysis, design, modeling and implementation of fuzzy systems, both theoretically and in a broad range of application fields.
The goal of the International Conference on Neural Computation Theory and Applications (NCTA) is to provide a major meeting point for scientists, engineers and practitioners interested in the study, analysis, design, modeling and implementation of neural computing systems, both theoretically and in a broad range of application fields.
IJCCI 2023 includes four talks delivered by internationally distinguished speakers:
Hani Hagras (University of Essex, United Kingdom), Nikolaus Hansen (Inria & Ecole Polytechnique & Institut Polytechnique de Paris, France), Sanaz Mostaghim (Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg, Germany) and Anastasios Tefas (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece).
The joint conference, IJCCI received 69 paper submissions from 26 countries, of which 32% were presented as full papers. To evaluate each submission, a double-blind paper evaluation method was used: each paper was reviewed by at least two internationally known experts from the Program Committee.
The high quality of the papers received imposed difficult choices in the review process. To evaluate each submission, a double-blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are highly qualified independent researchers in the ECTA, FCTA and NCTA topic areas.
As in previous editions of the conference, based on the reviewers’ evaluations and on the presentations, selected authors will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for a SCI Series book, which will be published by Springer with the best papers of IJCCI 2023.
Also, a short list of best papers will be invited for a post-conference special issue of the Springer Nature Computer Science journal.
All presented papers will be submitted for indexation by Scopus, Google Scholar, DBLP, Semantic Scholar, Microsoft Academic, EI (Elsevier Engineering Village Index) and Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI/ISI).
We would like to express our gratitude to all the people who have contributed to IJCCI 2023. First of all, to the authors, whose quality work has been essential for this conference; second, to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. Finally, we would like to deeply thank the invited speakers for their excellent contribution in sharing their knowledge and vision.
Finally, we acknowledge the professional support of the IJCCI 2023 team for all organizational processes, especially given the needs of a hybrid event, in order to make it possible for IJCCI 2023 authors to present their work and share ideas with colleagues in spite of the logistic difficulties.
We hope that all colleagues who participated in the conference and/or read its proceedings, find this a fruitful and inspiring conference. We hope to contribute to the development of the Computational Intelligence community and look forward to having additional research results presented at the next edition of IJCCI, details of which are available at https://ijcci.scitevents.org/.
