Abstract: |
Spatially
coherent structures and propagating waves of neural activity are commonly
found throughout the central nervous system. These activity profiles are
represented in both natural and pathological phenomena. We explore a two-layer
neural field model dually constrained by local interactions and a cortical
topography described by a ring topology neural network. We examine the
conditions for the generation of wave solutions. The constraints on neuronal
network computation implied by the dual local constraints may
place further constraints on global cortical network architecture to achieve
physiologically consistent wave behavior. |
