Abstract
In the context of the smart card adoption in the Dutch travel industry and uses the case of Netherlands Railways, this article presents the development of four propositions on using the dynamic pricing strategies for yield improvement. The objective of this article is threefold. First, the article focuses on identifying the impact of the adoption to the public transport operators as well as to the travellers. Second, it aims at investigating the new possibilities on yield management and dynamic pricing with this information technology in the railway travel industry. Third, it explores the linkage between the smart card data and the differentiated pricing strategy.
