Abstract

There has in recent years been much concern over software, its bad quality, delays in delivery, cost which exceed the estimates etc.

We may not be able to improve the situation in a drastic way on a short term basis, although the seeking for basic principles in the concept of software engineering does give occasion to more optimism.

The users of software, however, must be aware that they also have a large responsibility for the improvement, and if a larger awareness of this aspect has been obtained through the present paper one of the goals has been obtained.
