Abstract
The ECOOP workshop series on Object-Orientation and Operating Systems aims to bring together researchers and developers working on object-oriented operating systems and to provide a platform for discussing problems arising from the application of object-orientation to operating systems as well as solutions for them. The 5th workshop in this series focused on novel approaches in the overlap of the object-oriented programming and operating-systems development domains. Workshop presentations covered topics from the areas of languages and implementation techniques for operating systems, java-based operating-systems, and ubiquitous computing. As in previous years the workshop was also a platform to discuss the state of the art in object-oriented operating systems development and the impact of the presented academic research on the commercial operating systems market. This workshop report summarizes the presentations held at the workshop and the resulting discussion.
