Abstract
In the transport of compressed video over error prone channels. motion vectors and displaced frame differences may be lost or received with errors. The effect of such information loss can be devastating because any damage to the motion vector may lead to severe error propagation and significant visual distortion over several video frames at the decoder. To resolve such problem, several block-matching based techniques have been proposed to conceal the transport error. However, the corresponding computational expense required by these schemes has been too intensive for a practical video decoder. In this paper. we introduce a technique that makes use of correctly received motion vectors of neighboring macroblocks around the lost macroblock to achieve an effective block-matching. This technique enables us to reduce the computational expense to a great extent. Experimental results show that the proposed error concealment method can produce a high quality video while consuming reasonable computational power.
